The Irrio

The mural depicts the Irrio´s mask of Castro Caldelas. The origin of this mask is lost in time and may have a totemic nature (as Vicente Risco says). Some versions points it represents a tax collector for the nobility and others was a rebel against the counts and the ombudsman. There is also speculation that derives from Carnival to be used in celebrations of the town's patron. When I thought of this mask painted on a wall I had doubts whether it would be a tough image, but talking with people from Castro Caldelas I felt it would be a pride to paint thAT icon for the people.
